Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at Venice, Ildikó Enyedi’s Silent Friend is a luminous, time-spanning meditation set in a medieval German university town.

Beneath the watchful presence of a majestic Ginkgo biloba tree—capable of living a thousand years—human lives unfold across generations, their desires and discoveries quietly intertwined. Starring Tony Leung, Léa Seydoux, and Venice Prize-winning newcomer Luna Wedler, the film weaves romance, intellectual longing, and spiritual curiosity into a richly textured tapestry.

Elegant and deeply moving, Silent Friend explores what connects us to each other—and to the natural world—across time itself.
