A brilliant, twisted murder mystery from Iceland!

When a recluse is brutally murdered in the outskirts of Reykjavik, Detective Erlendur reluctantly begins the process of solving what he refers to as "a typical Icelandic murder… messy and pointless." Moody and haunting, Baltasar Kormakur's brilliant film touches on issues of identity and makes convenient use of the fact that Iceland's small, isolated, homogenous population shares (and chronicles painstakingly) an often eerily similar genetic "footprint". The interplay between the moral, scientific, and physical Icelandic landscapes make for a transporting cinematic experience.
